Calling all ODPP developers: FREE* USB drive...
If you are a member of the Omnis Developer Partner Program (ODPP), and you provide Omnis development or consulting services, you may be interested in DevCat - an extension to AppCat which lets you advertise your Omnis programming skills and experience plus any development services you may offer potential clients. Clients looking for Omnis development services can search DevCat and can contact you to discuss their requirements. And just to encourage you to signup to DevCat, we're offering a free USB pen drive to all ODPP members who add their details from now until the end of January 2010. If you are already on AppCat but not DevCat, you will qualify for the free USB if you add yourself to DevCat before Jan 2010.

More about AppCat: The Omnis Application Catalog or AppCat is an online database of Omnis solutions; it is provided for end-users to find a solution for their business, and for Omnis developers to advertise their solutions to end users. We have recently updated the AppCat system itself, with improved application interface and better search facility. We have been tidying up some of the data, and we would now like any developers who have entries in the AppCat to update and improve their own information. Click here to sign up, or search the catalog.

*To qualify for a free USB drive you must be a member of the Omnis Developer Partner Program (ODPP), and you must add your company to the DevCat service (part of AppCat), before the end of January 2010. We will mail the USB drive to you once we have confirmed your membership of the ODPP and validated your AppCat/DevCat user account. (Offer is limited to one USB drive per company and is subject to availability)

EurOmnis developer conference a great success...
EurOmnis 2009

By all accounts the recent EurOmnis developer conference was a roaring success, attended by over 100 Omnis developers and partners, as well as several representatives from TigerLogic in Europe and the USA. The conference took place October 11 to 16 in the Hotel Klein Zwitserland, near Arnhem, in The Netherlands, which proved to be an ideal location for the developer conference in which technical sessions were attended by no more than 6 attendees at a time, allowing for a great amount of information sharing and close collaboration.

This year marked the 10th technical conference to be held by developers in Europe, most of them being organised by long-term Omnis developer Fred Brinkman, who once again put together a great conference.

This year's conference also marked the 30th anniversary since Omnis was created, and during the Wednesday afternoon, many notable figures in the Omnis world were assembled to help celebrate this great milestone. Everyone agreed that the day belonged to Anna Wright, wife of Paul Wright who founded the company back in 1979 and who tragically died in 1990. Anna spoke passionately about Omnis and how it started in a small village near the River Blyth on the East coast of England, and challenged developers and TigerLogic itself to fully support and nurture Omnis, so it can enjoy even greater success in the coming years.

More information about the conference, and a lot more pictures, can be found at: www.EurOmnis.com

Studio 5 manuals are here...

We are pleased to report that printed copies of the Omnis Studio 5 manuals are now available. The manuals have been updated with all the new features in Studio 5, and the information from all previous version 4.x updates has been added as well – so the new manuals are completely up-to-date!

We've added a new section to the 'Introducing Omnis Studio' manual for learning about how to create Windows Mobile applications, and we've introduced a new manual to the complete set, the 'Extending Omnis' manual. This new manual contains some information from the old Programming manual (which still exists), such as Web development, and we've added chapters for Mobile, Web Comms, Graphs, .NET objects – in fact, all the features that "extend" Omnis, hence the name. We have sourced a new supplier for our manuals, called CPI Antony Rowe, a "print-on-demand" (POD) supplier based in the UK, so we hope you find the new service convenient and easy to use.
