Omnis at Systems 2006
Systems 2006

The Systems fair in Munich, Germany, is one of the leading IT trade fairs in Europe catering exclusively for the business IT, media and telecoms industries. The show takes place 23 - 27 October 2006 and our booth is in hall A2 (booth no. 436), the same hall as Microsoft and many other leading IT companies.

The RD Germany team will be showing all our latest products including Omnis Studio 4.2 (recently released: see right), as well as the new Omnis Web Services component. We will be joined on our booth by a number of Omnis partners who, as always, will have some exciting products on offer. So far we have two companies signed up, but are looking for more partners.

R.O.N.A. Computer Systems GmbH based in Götzis in Austria (www.rona.at) have an extensive ERP system called CONTEC which caters for the recycling industry. In addition they have EcoFleet (car pool management, optimisation and cost accounting system) and EasyTime (mobile time recording system), both very interesting Omnis applications.

A & L GmbH based in Hanover will show the final release of their Force4... technology, and in particular the Force4Omnis product. More info at: www.richinter.net

Please go to: www.systems.de for further information, or if you are an Omnis developer and want to take part in the fair, please contact the German sales team: ge_sales@omnis.net.
We look forward to seeing your there!!

Studio 4.2 is here!
Omnis Web Services

We are delighted to announce the availability of Omnis Studio 4.2, which provides up-to-date hardware compatibility, Web Services integration as well as SQL extensibility. Key improvements include:

Mac Intel Support - Omnis is now a so-called 'Universal Application' meaning Omnis Studio 4.2 will run on the new Mac Intel machines as well as the older PowerPCs.

Omnis Web Services - a brand new plug-in, available for purchase, to allow Omnis to act as a client or a server for Web Services (the plug-in requires Studio 4.2).

Direct HTTP access - Studio 4.2 includes a basic HTTP server, incorporated into the Omnis executable, which can handle Web Service and ultra-thin client requests sent directly to Omnis (https not supported).

Further details about the Omnis Studio 4.2 release can be found here, and info about the new Omnis Web Services component is here

Connected

Connected Precision Accounting is a powerful mid-range accounting solution designed for both Macintosh and Windows. Connected consists of three modules that are fully integrated: Core Accounting, Inventory Control, and Job Costing. It began over 15 years ago as an Omnis 5 application, created by Bottom Line Software, and has since developed into one of the most user-friendly and affordable accounting solutions for the SME market. Since the year 2000, Connected has been distributed worldwide by Accountek Solutions based in Ontario, Canada.

Over the past two years, Connected has been converted from Omnis 7 to Studio and the likes of Mark Phillips (Mophilly & Associates) and Dirk Seiber (WildStar Consulting) have provided substantial contributions to the migration process. The New Studiotips
Studiotips.net

Studiotips.net is a fantastic resource providing searchable, on-line Studio tips, code snips, tutorials, demos, and utilities. Many resources are free, including a Studio 101 tutorial, but you can sign up to receive even more goodies including a StudioTips library (containing the tips on the website and sample code), further tutorials, and several other useful Omnis libraries.

The StudioTips.net website is provided by Doug Kuyvenhoven of Vencor Software based in Canada. You may remember that Vencor used to produce a 'Lite' version of StudioTips, which you could previously download from the Omnis website, but this has in effect been replaced by the Studiotips.net website. You should take a good look at the Studiotips.net website and think about becoming a 'StudioTips Member', which would then entitle you to full, unrestricted access to the website and several other 'members only' resources.

The Studiotips.net website has many tutorials and examples of Omnis code that you can try, but signing up provides a lot more...
