The
EurOmnis
developer conference is held in October every
year in the Netherlands, and is run by developers
for developers. This year the conference is taking
place at the Hotel Klein Zwitserland, Arnhem,
the Netherlands from 11 to 16 October, and like
several of the conferences before it, is organised
by long-term Omnis developer Fred Brinkman. The
conference this year is a special occasion, being
the 10th conference in Europe and the organisers
are setting up several special events & guests
to celebrate this milestone. The technical content
of the conference program promises to be one of
the best with topics right across the full spectrum
of Omnis programming topics and techniques, including:
web-client and web-services technologies, Converting
from DML to SQL, XML in Omnis, Omnis SOA, Building
Omnis Externals, and Solutions using PostGreSQL
The conference will also give you the chance to
see some of the new features in Omnis
Studio 5, including support for Windows
Mobile and full Unicode support.

Each of the conference topics is presented in
a small group which allows all those in the group
to learn more than in a classroom setting; the
Omnis expert presenting the session is able to
tailor the content for their group which creates
a deeper understanding of the topic. Alongside
the dedicated sessions there is a special so-called
"Studio 101" training course for beginners
or recent converts to Omnis the 101 sessions
are run by David Swain, experienced Omnis trainer
and all-round Omnis guru of many years. The conference
is topped off with many special anniversary events,
including the chance to meet the current designers
of Omnis Studio from our UK development centre,
as well as some of the founders of the company
who first created Omnis as well as past supporters
of the product. Then there is the "Grand
EurOmnis Dinner" at the Castle Doorwerth
(5km from the hotel), built in 1260 and said to
be haunted by the ghost of the Contessa Charlotte-Sophie
who was spotted in 2004!
