Raining Data Germany
have returned from a very successful CeBIT 2008,
which took place over six days (4 to 9 March)
in Hannover, Germany. Despite the current world
economic climate, which has taken a battering
in the past few months, and the slight drop in
attendance at this, the world's largest IT fair,
demand for IT solutions and technology products
remains strong in the business and consumer sectors.
With this in mind, we were delighted with the
number of genuine contacts we made at the show,
and, as in previous years, we were able to sign
up new customers to our developer programs and
services.
With our brand new booth design, including a
huge 12m-long banner advertising everything that
Omnis can do, members of the RD German office
were continually demonstrating Omnis to anybody
interested in finding new software development
tools. For many people, the strongest arguments
for choosing Omnis are its flexible database connectivity,
cross-platform development on Windows, Mac and
Linux, and the web development possibilities provided
by the Omnis Web Client. We met a lot of .NET
and Java programmers who were looking for a faster
or easier way to build applications, so hopefully
after seeing Omnis at CeBIT we will be able to
convince them to switch over to Omnis Studio.
Overall it has been a great CeBIT for our European
sales team and we look forward to welcoming many
new Omnis developers in the coming weeks. More

Several of our customers were also exhibiting
at CeBIT, including comTeam
who were present in the Planet Reseller park.
comTeam represents a network of system integrators
and IT solution providers based throughout Germany,
and is part of ElectronicPartner, Europe's largest
retailer & supplier of electrical and technology
products. Holger Küchenmeister
from comTeam has built a great application using
Omnis Web Client, called TradersGuide (www.tradersguide.de
requires login), which allows members of the EP
alliance to compare real-time information about
price and availability of thousands of electrical
consumer and business products, from more than
one hundred different suppliers (read our case
study of the app here).
Holger has recently completed another great web
application (launched at CeBIT) to allow ElectronicPartner
members to compare prices and availability of
mobile phone handsets and tariffs from all the
main providers - we hope to bring you more information
about this application in the coming weeks.

"We would not have been able to achieve
such high functionality and performance over the
web with any other development environment."
Holger Küchenmeister, Senior Omnis developer,
comTeam.
The TradersGuide
(above) is built using the Omnis Web Client plug-in
technology.
