Omnis for iPhone at CeBIT 2010

Omnis Studio 5 for iPhone®
Omnis Studio for iPhone® contains over 20 native iPhone components for you to create Omnis Apps for iPhone® and iPod touch® -- this adds to all the great new features in Omnis Studio 5 which is available for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X. Come along to CeBIT to try it out!

CeBIT 2010

The CeBIT international trade fair in Hannover (2-6 March) is the largest gathering of Computing, IT and technology companies in the world, and is the event not to be missed if you want to see the latest trends in Business IT and Software development. We are particularly excited about this year's CeBIT because we will be demo'ing Omnis Studio for iPhone®, which is currently in Beta (available to ODPP members, see below for further details). We also hope to show other TigerLogic products including yolink and TigerLogic XDMS. So we urge you to come along, see the great products we have on offer, and give your development projects a boost!

The new iPhone development capability for Omnis is built into the Omnis Studio 5 SDK which we released in September last year. Omnis Studio 5 allows you to create all types of enterprise and web applications for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X, and included support for Windows Mobile® devices, full Unicode compatibilty for applications and data, as well as a raft of new features for the Omnis VCS, Localisation tools (automatic translation of string tables), IMAP mail commands, Method performance monitoring, and much more.

To book an appointment at CeBIT with our German team, please contact Birgit Jaeger, or just drop by Hall 3, K20. We'll be very pleased to meet you!

Omnis for iPhone... now in BETA!

We are delighted to report that the Beta version of Omnis Studio 5 for iPhone is ready and available to all supported developers. With these latest updates to Omnis Studio 5 you can now develop applications for Apple's iPhone® and iPod touch®, creating Omnis applications with an entirely native look-and-feel familiar to all iPhone users. The beta is available only to developers on the Omnis Developer Partner Program (ODPP) and we urge you to try it out today!

Designing applications in Omnis Studio 5 for the iPhone or iPod touch is virtually the same as creating any other type of Omnis client application. However designing remote forms for the iPhone is slightly different from standard web or mobile forms in so far as there is a new set of remote form components, 100% compatible with iPhone and iPod touch to create the native look-and-feel.

To create an iPhone form you switch the form to iPhone, add the special iPhone components in the usual way, and code your business logic and event management methods using the familiar Omnis code. Due to restrictions in licensing by Apple, Omnis code methods cannot be executed on the device, so all processing is done on the Omnis Server. You can create the Omnis library on either Mac OS X or Windows, but when you're ready to test your library on the device itself you'll need to create the Omnis iPhone App on a Mac OS X machine using XCODE. And, in order to do this, you'll need to signup to Apple's iPhone Developer program. To distribute your Omnis iPhone App you can use the Enterprise or Ad Hoc Distribution program which Apple provides.

Together with the already released Windows Mobile client, available in Omnis Studio 5, and soon-to-be-released Omnis Studio for iPhone, you can further extend your Omnis applications to entirely new customers and new markets.
Calling all ODPP developers: FREE* USB drive...
If you are a member of the Omnis Developer Partner Program (ODPP), and you provide Omnis development or consulting services, you may be interested in DevCat - an extension to AppCat which lets you advertise your Omnis programming skills and experience plus any development services you may offer potential clients. Clients looking for Omnis development services can search DevCat and can contact you to discuss their requirements. And just to encourage you to signup to DevCat, we're offering a free USB pen drive to all ODPP members who add their details from now until the end of February 2010. If you are already on AppCat but not DevCat, you will qualify for the free USB if you add yourself to DevCat during Feb 2010.

More about AppCat: The Omnis Application Catalog or AppCat is an online database of Omnis solutions; it is provided for end-users to find a solution for their business, and for Omnis developers to advertise their solutions to end users. We have recently updated the AppCat system itself, with improved application interface and better search facility. We have been tidying up some of the data, and we would now like any developers who have entries in the AppCat to update and improve their own information. Click here to sign up, or search the catalog.

(Offer is limited to one USB drive per company and is subject to availability)
